Biomechanics and Gait Analysis

What is it?

Biomechanics is the study of the mechanics of a living body, especially of the forces exerted by muscles and gravity on the skeletal structure. Any abnormalities can give rise to pain, sports injuries and poor posture.

Why treat it?

A biomechanical assessment can help to identify anomalies in our skeletal structure and determine areas where compensation has occurred. It can help with foot and ankle pain: heel pain, plantar fasciitis, bunion problems, metatarsalgia and Morton’s neuroma. Sports injuries and foot posture related back pain can be diagnosed, treated and improved by a biomechanical assessment and subsequent treatment plan.

How can I help you?

I can discuss your symptoms with you and carry out a physical assessment. The assessment involves looking at the way you stand and walk, checking the joints and muscles from the hips to the feet and assessing your footwear and lifestyle. After the assessment has been carried out, a treatment plan with then be formulated specific to you. Your treatment plan may involve orthotics, exercises, footwear advice or further referral to other health practitioners who may be able to help in conjunction with me.
